The Borden Murders: Lizzie Borden & the Trial of the Century by Sarah Miller

5.0

To preface this review I'm gonna give you a warning. This book is violent and unlike most stories I review, is based in fact. This adds an element of horror that you wouldn't usually find in nonfiction books. There are gruesome details that could be hard to stomach for some people. I was so appalled by the story I almost started crying as I was reading it. You will get upset and you should definitely know your limits before going into this, it may be interesting but it's horrifying.

Anyways, to the review now. I read this book in like two days, which is shocking since I literally freaking hate nonfiction most of the time. I definitely never would've even considered this book if I wasn't required to read a nonfiction book for English. But I settled on this one because it sounded interesting, and it was in a twisted way. Whether or not you've heard of the Borden Murders, you'll feel like you know everything about them after reading. The whole situation is very depressing and hard to wrap your mind around. However, Miller very well goes over it and makes it seem familiar, as well as adding in pieces of information that aren't common knowledge such as things we know today but didn't at the time. There are also excerpts of newspapers from the time to put the situation in perspective. In the end, if you think you can handle it, I recommend you at least consider this biography to get more of a glimpse of one of the worlds most infamous murder mysteries, one which to this day hasn't been solved.
