THIS is what I’ve been waiting for out of this series. I feel like Maas always hits it right on the head with the 2nd/3rd books in the series- probably because that’s when she really gets into the meat of it. I love Rowan! I think I was waiting for a character like him to show up- his interactions with Aelin and the other characters are just a lot more interesting than some of the central characters in the first 2 books.
My main complaint is that a few of the POVs didn’t interest me enough from the beginning. It took me a while to care about Manon’s and Chaol/Dorian’s chapters, especially because not much was happening in the beginning. I ended up being surprisingly invested in Manon’s story (and I’m interested to see where the stories intersect), but in the beginning I kept wondering how it was directly relevant to the plot of this particular story. The end of the book really shone, and Dorian and Chaol’s POVs got infinitely more interesting (OMG), and I am really excited to see what comes in the next book.
