Hooktheory I: Music Theory by Chris Anderson, Ryan Miyakawa, David Carlton

5.0

Loved it. Absolutely helpful.

The song examples using the prized HookPad software serve as fantastic examples that describe the function of chords. No other songwriting book I have come across so far illustrates these concepts so tangibly and understandably.

A few test-your-knowledge explanations were confusing and unfinished (the authors agreed with me) and the book felt cut short suddenly, but it is absolutely a very unique and worthy read that is, of course, extended through its sequel.
