I have so many thoughts on this book I dont know where to begin
is it 170 pgs long? yes
did it take me over a month to read? yes
did i check trigger warnings? no
should I have checked trigger warnings? yes
did i enjoy the themes of the book? not really
did i like the characters? not a single one
did i enjoy the plot? nope
did i understand what was going on? not a scooby!
did i love this book? yes absolutely and i cannot figure out how i disliked so much of what I was reading, and yet still ended up loving it
I think the final few pages really tied it all together and I have so many questions, so I'm probably going to be in an Anna Kavan rabbit hole for the next two weeks
I have spent so much time thinking about this book, and more specifically the author and how she wrote this and why.
I think I love this book for the fact that it has provoked so many questions and i honestly think I could write a 10,000 word dissertation about is (it wouldn't be very good but that's not the point)
I think this book falls more into the dystopian or speculative fiction genres, rather than sci-fi but that's just my own personal opinion
spoiler section
is the ice actually representative of climate change?
is the sexual and misogynistic violence in this book coming from her own experiences? is it internalised misogny? is she she processing her trauma by writing this?
is she gay and it's internalised homophobia, like she hates this woman for the way she feels, so she punishes her for it?
I will probably have more comments in the morning
