The Midnight Prince by Jennifer Ascienzo

adventurous challenging dark emotional funny mysterious sad tense fast-paced

5.0

The Midnight Prince is the second installment in the fascinating YA Dark Sci-fi Romance series Foiled Stars, penned by Jennifer Ascienzo. I couldn’t put it down and read it voraciously.
The narrative picks up where the first book ends, with Autumn and Dante arriving on his home planet, Surge, 100 billion light-years away from Earth. Simultaneously, Guillermo Ramon, Autumn's father, devastated by her disappearance, does everything in his power to find her, bring her back, and avenge Dante. Throughout the book, I found myself rooting for Dante, who goes to unfathomable lengths to protect Autumn and Earth, upholding their agreement. However, Autumn stubbornly refuses to honor her side of the bargain. The result is endless misunderstandings and conflicts widening the rift between them, providing fertile ground for their mortal enemies—old and new, known and unknown—to hatch, advance, and begin executing their nefarious plans.
Jennifer Ascienzo’s cinematic writing style transported me into the heart of the story, even during the moments when I wasn’t actively reading. The seamless execution of multiple points of view, the intricate development of character arcs—where no character is superfluous—and the intricate web of events and plot twists all contribute to making this sequel a worthy companion to its predecessor. The book culminates in a mind-bending, heart-wrenching cliffhanger that leaves readers yearning for the third installment in this five-star series.
Personally, I was blissfully swept away by the captivating tapestry of love, hatred, political intrigue, and the magical world-building in both books. The “Darth Vader” vibes emanating from Dante in the second installment add an exciting layer, ensuring a delightful wild adventure for enthusiasts of both the Warhammer and Star Wars Universes. With every turn of the page, readers are left eagerly anticipating what comes next.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to BookSirens, the publishers and Jennifer Ascienzo for granting me the opportunity to read the eARC of this enchanting saga. I can’t wait to see where the next installment takes us.
