a collection of queer, feminist horror that is beautifully written. some of these stories just hit in a way that i don’t think i’ll ever forget them, and others were just a good read even if they didn’t hit as hard for me. these are definitely stories that force you to think about what the author is saying, usually revolving around how women - and their bodies - are treated in society. being in a gendered body, especially a femme presenting one, is a type of horror that is uniquely captured in these pages even when the stories border on the absurd. i am in awe of the way machado writes, not only with her prose but her metaphors as well (and maybe just how her brain works), and couldn’t recommend reading this collection more.
