Reluctant Immortals

Unfortunately, a dnf at page 115 ... I don't even know where to start ... I am not a huge fan of ya-retellings of classics anyway. But I still wanted to give it a try, because Stephen Graham Jones blurbed it ... and also because I found Lucy as a character in Dracula very intriguing - and I was (or thought I was) in the mood for a fun horrorish ya romp - just reading for entertainment's purposes... Unfortunately, this book did not even manage to meet my low expectations. First of all, the nickname "Bee" for Bertha gave me absolute cringy fan fiction vibes - I really couldn't stand it! Secondly, I don't even know why THESE FAMOUS LITERARY CHARACTERS are USED as protagonists for this novel ... I only read Dracula and Jane Eyre once. So I am not really an expert, BUT even I can tell, that these characters have hardly any similarities (beyond their names) with the original characters. The characters felt bland and one-dimensional. The plot (at least as far I have read) was booring as shit. I just don't care about it. I am especially pissed with the choice of classical literature characters. It was either a mean "Clickbait" to trick readers into buying the novel, or just a really really poorly executed "retelling"-attempt by the author ...
This book was a massive flop for me, despite my very very low expectations. ... sorry...
