Redshirts by John Scalzi

Hmm. Not *quite* as good as I thought it would be, though I enjoyed it. The plotting is satisfyingly intricate but the characters are somehow just...Redshirts. It was honestly quite hard to tell them apart. So, a good, entertaining novel in the tradition of a Dick (if Dick had been a comic writer with sharp one liners) but somehow less than I was hoping for. The characters might have deserved better deaths but perhaps the deaths deserved more-rounded characters.
