Sydney and Taylor Explore the Whole Wide World by Jacqueline Davies

So before anything about the book itself, I find myself wondering whether the character names are an homage to [a:Sydney Taylor|5323|Sydney Taylor|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1417923999p2/5323.jpg], or if that's just accidental.

But names aside, Sydney and Taylor echo many of the great Easy Reader Friendships ([b:Frog and Toad|537296|Frog and Toad Are Friends (Frog and Toad, #1)|Arnold Lobel|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1388179033l/537296._SY75_.jpg|1231880], [b:Mouse and Mole|6791013|Mouse and Mole, Fine Feathered Friends|Wong Herbert Yee|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1347694028l/6791013._SX50_.jpg|6994968], [b:Elephant and Piggie|515904|There Is a Bird on Your Head! Sydney is a calm homebody, willing to take on adventure for Taylor, who is more anxious but who has bigger dreams. It's Taylor, a hedgehog, who wants to see the whole wide world, but it's Sydney the skunk who plans and executes the adventure and who saves Taylor from any number of threats large and small. The two friends work well together and the illustrations really are just charming.
