Basically The Catcher in the Rye if The Catcher in the Rye was actually good. Charlie is a fascinating and loveable character and him and his friends are incredibly deep and well written. Reading this novel really feels like you are taking a look into someone’s life. The gay representation in this novel is fantastic, especially considering it was still a taboo thing to write about when this novel was published. This is a must read for (especially) teenagers and adults alike, who like slice of life or growing up stories about loss of innocence.
Graphic: Alcoholism, Cursing, Homophobia, Physical abuse, Sexual assault, Sexual content, and Alcohol
Moderate: Child abuse, Domestic abuse, Drug use, Mental illness, Rape, Toxic relationship, and Grief
Minor: Addiction, Bullying, Pedophilia, Racism, and Suicide
Many of the above topics are explored in a disturbing manner.
