Before I Go
by Colleen Oakley
Before I go by Colleen Oakley is a touching and heartfelt book that follows the remaining days of Daisy and her husband Jake as she gets a terminal cancer diagnosis. Post diagnosis Daisy plans to solve the problem of her absent-minded husband and find him a new wife who will ensure his life stays organised. Be warned this book is a tear jerker, it will make you cry. It is sad and don't think for two seconds you won't ponder your own existence and mortality reading this book. I really liked Daisy as a character and as the book went on you could tell her condition was worsening from the way she talked and her actions. This book really does make you realise how hard it is to say goodbye, and that life is final, but will go on even when we are not here.
This book was a fabulous read and I ploughed through it in just a matter of days in my spare time. It is well written and the story flows nicely and draws you in the further you go. A great novel, but like most humans I avoid thinking about my own mortality as much as possible and am glad that I finished it quickly.
