When You Were Everything is a powerful tale of lost friendship but also self-discovery. The Heroine is struggling to deal with losing her best friend while also navigating her parents’ separation.

“You can’t rewrite the past, but you can always choose to start again.”

The dissolution of Cleo (the Heroine) and Layla’s friendship was so relatable. It evoked memories of broken friendships from my middle school and high school. How your best friend can turn into someone you hear about in passing at family gatherings. And, more specifically, how a friendship can crumble from the slight dents insecurity, hurt and betrayal puts into its foundation.
