The Coroner's Lunch by Colin Cotterill

4.0

Such a different choice, but also - not really. Urban fantasy, if by "urban" you mean "1970s Communist Laos" and the character is a 72 year old widower. Otherwise most of the other tropes are there - he's snarky and constantly questions authority. He has hilarious trouble with transportation, and a couple of quirky sidekicks. Politics mixes with humor, and his house blows up. There's a love interest with complications, and it ends on a cliffhanger for the next installment. If you like mystery series and/or urban fantasy, you'll like this one.
