This was a quick, cute read. I liked all of the sea imagery and I think it's a nice middle grade/YA tale about friendship (and mermaids! :) ). Obviously, the writing style is easier to understand, but it still has that bit of magical realism in it that I love. Alice Hoffman is one of my all time favourite authors, so I'm glad I could read it, as I'm slowly making my way through all of her books.
