Thank You, Jeeves by P.G. Wodehouse
2.0

This was the first full-length book I've read by P.G. Wodehouse. While I have been following Jeeves and Wooster's story for a few books now, they were all in the form of short-story collections, complete in themselves. It was interesting to see the same elements of humor play out over chapters. It didn't take away from how funny the book was on the whole.

My only complaint - and this is a big one - was the inclusion of blackface in the novel. At some point in the book, a few characters apply boot polish on their faces in order to resemble Black characters. I don't care how long ago this was written - this was racist. Full stop. I did not appreciate it. I was upset it was included. If I edited this book, I would have put a little introduction with a note on how this is a major drawback for the book overall, and why the publisher decided to publish the book knowing this was part of the content. The casual use of the n-word didn't help things either.

The book was funny and entertaining overall, but I wish Wodehouse hadn't felt the need to use blackface as a plot device. The book could have been better without it.
