This book is certainly a product of its time and setting (a small town), and so you have to be able to forgive it things like weird gender roles, much commenting on people's weight and women's clothing, exotifying non-white food, etc. But if you can manage that, the story is well written and draws you in. The ending is very ridiculous, but in a fun, Sherlock- Holmes-reveal type of way, and I enjoyed it. So overall, three stars for being fun while not fully recommendable.
