In this novel, we alternate between Alizeh, a Jinn who must keep her identity concealed, and Kamran, a prince of the Ardunian kingdom. We’re already set up for forbidden romance, but add a foreboding prophecy into the mix and you can see why our two main characters shouldn’t get along. But will that stop them? You’ll have to read to find out.

What I can say, is that I really enjoyed their back-and-forth. There is a formality about their interactions when mixed in with dry wit and a touch of lust that makes me so damn giddy.

I do think this is a romance-first fantasy, seeing as the focus does lie on their relationship and the plot second, but I still enjoyed their separate threads. There’s court intrigue and politics when we follow Kamram and supernatural riddles and evasive action on Alizeh’s side.

Overall, I really enjoyed this. There was a moment of whiplash towards the end of this book where it the plot suddenly pivoted (or so it seemed), but that raised some questions that I’m eager to see answered in book two.
