This one is hard to rate because it does draw so much from the 2022 Idaho murders— like a lot. But I did find the mystery interesting and compelling, the characters were well done, and I really love Winstead’s writing. It just feels weird that it pulled from such a current true crime story. I can’t ding it too much, though, because it pretty much did the same thing Bright Young Women by Jessica Knoll did, and that one got so much applause. I do think this could have been at least 50, if not 100 pages shorter, and it felt like the storylines could’ve been a little more tightly woven. A solid mystery thriller, though!
