Blockade Billy
by Stephen King
This is really more of a novella than an actual book. And this isn't really traditional King in a lot of ways. The story chronicles the rise and fall of the New Jersey Titans, a baseball team who's best season and best player was wiped off the history books. It's told through the eyes of the old manager of the team, who is in a home, telling the story to Mr. King.
Let me say that if you don't like baseball, this isn't something that you would want to read. A lot of the novella is this old manager describing the games and how Blockade Billy does through the games. By his descriptions from the beginning, we know that something is not quite right with Billy, and boy, do we find it out at the end.
Personally, because I love baseball, I really liked this novella. I loved the descriptions of the games and the language that the old man used. It was easy for me to visualize the players and the games.
I would recommend this novella, but only if you enjoy baseball. I would avoid it if you don't, or if you don't know anything at all about the game. King said he wrote this for fans of the game and his love of the game definitely comes across as well. Anyway, read this. I would give this novella a 3.5 out of 5.
