Maybe This Time by Jennifer Crusie

4.0

I'll say this for Ms Crusie - all of her books I have read so far have been wildly different.

In this novel Andie and Nick have been divorced for 10 years. She's a free spirit and he is a workaholic lawyer. On the cusp of marrying another man, Andie visits Nick to return 10 years of alimony cheques and ask him to leave her alone. Instead, Nick asks her to look after two young cousins whose nearest relatives have all died and who have seen off three nannies.

When Andie arrives the house is cross between the House of Usher and that Henry James book - The Turn of the Screw?

Soon, Andie is dealing with a morose teenage boy, a hysterical pre-teen girl, a drunken housekeeper and THREE ghosts. Oh and add in Nick's manwhore brother, Andie's hippy-dippy mother, a parapsychologist and a rapcious TV presenter.

By turns this is a romance, horror and comedy which keeps you guessing all the time.
