Dreamcatcher by Stephen King
1.0

I loved early King. So when my reviews or stars on his later work are low, part of that is just, "WHAT HAVE YOU BECOME!?!" which isn't fair, because artists have to grow and evolve...I just wish he'd evolved in a different direction, or maybe that I had as a reader.

This was a hard DNF for me, and the first Stephen King I ever dnf'd (though not the last). I wasn't sold on the early bit, I wasn't sold on the flashback where it turned out that all the main characters were besties with a magical disabled kid. I actually hated that part so much that was where I stopped (hate that trope), but I was pissed off enough that I flipped to the end and read the last chapter, and I was both enraged that it was so goddamn stupid, and somewhat relieved that I hadn't read all the way to that point to find it out.

He wrote this book while he was recovering from being hit by a car, and I think it works for me to imagine that he was just trying to pass his suffering on into the world.
