Learn this now and learn it well. Like a compass facing north, a man's accusing finger always finds a woman. always.

There is something about the way Hosseini writes that makes it so felt. This book is such a craft from the story to the writing to its characters. The violence is harrowing - with every scene that comes I feel it in my skin. I had to look away because I couldn't bear the inhumaneness of it all. It's almost impossible to think about how they lived at the time - from the war out in the world to that in their homes. The characters haunt me still, I feel for them.

I read this before going to bed and it wasn't the best idea considering I could barely put it down. Mariam and Laila are characters in a book but there are plenty more out there like them. A must read if you haven't already! Although, I might not pick this up again for a while. This is one of those that need time before you can dive right back in.
