The Deadly Hunter by Jude Watson
4.0

Another plot line free from any Offworld/Xanatos themes was most welcome, offering another fresh story. Another cast of new characters provided variety, all of them well-written and believable, although as with all the books in the Jedi Apprentice series, they could use a bit more fleshing out. And also, the female Sorrusian bounty hunter seemed a bit too strong to me. She’s a tough character definitely, and she initially catches Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan by surprise, but the Jedi should be a class above her – perhaps not Obi-Wan as a young Padawan, but a full Jedi Knight like Qui-Gon ought to be able to deal with her, you’d think. The plot included complex elements, but was still understandable. I particularly enjoyed the murder mystery theme, and there was plenty of suspense, puzzles and a cliff-hanger ending. Qui-Gon is his usual perceptive, resourceful self, and working in good tandem with his apprentice. A slightly older Obi-Wan shows a little more experience, with greater gravitas and perceptiveness than before.

7 out of 10 (for a children's book).
