Crossroads by Mary Ting

Just so you all know, I didn't read the paperback. I read the Kindle Edition. But I have to make sure everything matches with the covers that I read. This was the cover on my Kindle version but it won't show it on Goodreads. The cover is hella gorgeous, why not show it off?
This book is totally out of the norm for me to read. Normally I want nothing to do with angels and religion and stuff like that. It's too much, ya know? I'd rather not have a lecture about Jesus shoved down my throat. But I saw the beautiful cover and the summary said nephilim plus demons so I was like why not? Anything demon related is bound to be fun.
Boy, I am so glad that I picked this up. Immediately I was drawn into the world of the Crossroads. The Crossroads is like the place between life and death. No human goes there but Claudia did in her dreams. She is more than what meets the eye. Speaking of her, I love how Claudia narrates so straight to the point. She isn't wishy washy like most teenage girls her age. She accepts her fate and accepts who she is. She handles everything pretty well, I'd say. If I was her, I would flipped my crap.
I loved reading about the angel lore. I don't want to say all what it's about because I think it would be better to experience it yourself. I will admit I know very little about angels and what I do know comes from Supernatural so I have no idea how reliable that actually is. The angel lore just fits so seamlessly into the story. If you have read the Bible or watched Supernatural you will recognize a lot of the names. The angels are a little different than what you'd expect. Just warning you so nobody gets their panties in a twist about how the angels are portrayed in the way they are in the bible.
I guess the reason I gave this four stars is I really hated how Michael was portrayed in the beginning. He was just such an ass. And I get where he is coming from. He didn't want Claudia in the Crossroads, which is the place between life and death, but did he have to be such a damn jerk about it? He totally redeems himself about 30 pages through or so but I just can't forgive him for treating Claudia like that.
The way Aden, the lead Fallen, died. Like it was so anticlimactic. The angel has spent how long tracking Claudia and that is how he died? The angels built him up so much, made him seem like he was so dangerous. He found a way to control demons to do his bidding. And then he just dies so easily. Either he's not really dead or that was just poor writing on Mary Ting's part.
Overall, a solid story. I will be continuing this series after I get Kindle Unlimited back. I'm anxious to see Claudia and Michael's relationship develop. I'm also anxious to see what happens to Claudia and how she will handle all the dangers that I'm sure will happen.
