Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media by Edward S. Herman, Noam Chomsky
4.0
This book is dense. I didn’t fully grasp the particulars of all of the examples they give because I’m scrambled on the history of the events in the first place (proof of their thesis!) but the thesis is well done and imperative to understand: the media participates in government propaganda through clear, identifiable patterns. This results in the population consenting to government malpractice and harm on behalf of its citizens.
I *really* wish Noam Chomsky was around today to do a chapter on Gaza. That book will be written someday and the media will be the clear perpetrator in the story.
