Stories of Your Life and Others by Ted Chiang
3.0
Chiang is a brilliant thinker. He takes an idea and extrapolates it to all its logical conclusions. This made for a lot of fascinating concepts and thought experiments. However, the writing is usually fairly clinical, often reading like an academic journal article, and the characters and plots are not nearly as compelling as the ideas at play. My favorite stories were Story of Your Life, Hell is the Absence of God, and Liking What You See: A Documentary, but they all had little nuggets worth pondering.
