This book is more academic than I would have liked, hence my 3-star rating. That being said it was well written and very informative. The book flowed well and did not bore me as some academic books do.

Hutton takes a look at four main figures from Christian Europe that have come to be recognized as deities, but were they really pre-Christian pagan deities? Probably not according to this book. This book did a lot to explain how some of the myths got started and explained how they became intertwined. What I did like, is how Hutton states toward the end that just because they weren't pagan gods of ole, doesn't mean we shouldn't honor them today.

Very interesting read.
