The Bark of the Bog Owl by Kristi Smith, Abe Goolsby, Jonathan Rogers
1.0
i had some trepidations about this one. i found it at the frugal muse and the cover was very appealing, so i bought it. upon closer inspection, it promised to be “biblical fiction” and i wondered if it were right for our public library setting. after reading it, the allusions to the story of king david are definitely there, but unless you’re really looking for them, you can read it just for the storyline and ignore the hidden messages. that being said, jonathan rogers is no c.s. lewis. the story seemed very pro-war to me (an instant turn-off for my pacifist self) and the dialogue was mediocre. there was nothing in the story that made me wish it would keep going. i savored nothing. i don’t know if i’m interested enough to even read the sequel which i’ve already purchased (again from frugal muse). i give it a “meh.”
