I still like The House at Riverton better. There's just something in the way the author presents the past events in that book. I love how Grace loses herself in her memories, it felt real to me. Here the many events are in someway linked in the 3 timelines and they flow easily, like the unraveling of a tapestry, but it misses something. I liked the characters but they didn't move me as Grace. I know it's not fair to compare the two books but I can't help it. Still, I really loved the book, it has some sort of spell that kept me reading and wanting more of it. I blame it on the fairy tales, which were really beautiful, and on the mystery, even if it was easy to solve it. The author has also a beautiful writing (or so I believe as I read the Portuguese translation which, thankfully, was way better than The House at Riverton), a way with words that contributes to the spell.

That's how I define this author - spellbinding.
