Usually I’m a hater of ya fantasy and books but this time was different. If all ya fantasy was like this it would be great. Strong book over very strong themes of colonialism almsot similar to Babel and doesn’t assume the reader is stupid or talks down on them. I have the teeniest gripes with this book so that’s why it’s 4.75 but I might go back and change to 5 after thinking on it. The main character, Anequs seems a little bit too perfect in where she does little wrong and always knows the rightest and smartest things to say. People also might be a little turned away on how it’s a little different in how it focuses lowkey little on the dragons and plot and more so on the characters and themes. It was also a good thing that they didn’t think the reader was stupid but I feel like they kind of should have that a little because I was struggling a little bit to understand the magic system and other things. However these are small and I’ll be continuing with the series and the author!
