Murder Road by Simone St. James

challenging dark emotional mysterious tense medium-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? It's complicated

Supernatural slasher is a tricky thing to pull off, especially in books, but Simone St. James does it well here. She blends the horror/thriller aspect well with Eddie and April's own secrets and backgrounds--mysteries all around! It could easily have felt disjointed and disconnected, but here, it worked.
The reveal stretched credulity a little and I didn't really see the need for the father to show up, but it's okay.
