Another really quite engrossing novel here by Nirina Stone and one that did have me hooked from start to finish. There are some aspects that she is not quite as strong on, but by and large this was an entertaining and really inrteresting tale with a well paced and fast moving plot. Occasional flashes of insipid romance can be overlooked but perhaps when a character is bleeding out, the timing could have been significantly better. Thankfully, there weren't too many moments like that and overall this made for an enjoyable read.
Character development could have been further expanded on as what you’re given is often a tad stilted and forced, particularly when it comes to the romantic interchanges. But there were some really novel ideas that were well expressed - the northies for example or the cat the size of a horse - and generally this felt like a well knitted novel that has been thought out and implemented well.
This novel also raised more thought provoking questions and morality issues than the first, although the author could have made things more grey rather than black and white. The potential is there, but the author has a tendency to make her characters certain of what’s right and wrong for example rather than playing with the flawed narrator idea. The set up is all there for that to be executed fantastically... but somehow it never quite materialises.
However, I enjoyed the first and I enjoyed this even more. I will certainly be reading the third.
