Interstellar meets Ender’s Game meets Ready Player One meets Sherlock Holmes meets Silent Spring… an amalgamation of all their worst traits. Admittedly I have a rather rudimentary understanding of Chinese politics as well as physics (limited to grasping concepts presented in pop science magazines), so the thrill of following the mystery fell flat for me. What's worse, despite failing to fully appreciate the CSI-style-overexplaining-methods-of-study-for-audience-benefit, I could feel that the big "twist" had largely to do with quantum entanglement in my heart. It sucks being right when the plot and characters have nothing to offer. Dull.
