Jonathan Maberry really isn’t that good of a writer and sucks at writing relationships, is terrible at dialogue, and takes his pulpy stories way too seriously. Add to that the fact that the stories are bloated with unnecessary and uninteresting flashbacks/interludes and you get books that are equally entertaining as they are cringy. The pacing in this one is better than the last even if the plot is dumber.
