Still Life by Louise Penny

4.0

In the first of Louise Penny's Chief Inspector Armand Gamache mysteries, Gamache and his investigative team are called to a small rural village, Three Pines, located south on Montreal. A well-respected, elderly local woman has been found dead in the woods. Was her demise a tragic hunting accident, or was something or someone sinister at play in the tiny hamlet? I liked this book overall- the characters were believable and human. The setting appealing, yet mysterious and the plot intricate with a good touch of humor from time to time. For me, the book bogged down a bit in the middle, but it picked up again with a satisfying and well reasoned conclusion. I listened to the audiobook, and as an English speaking American, I found some of the characters with French names a little hard to keep straight. I think that reading the print version would solve that problem. I enjoyed this book enough that I will most likely read more books by this author.
