Fevre Dream by George R.R. Martin
3.0

Vampire tales rarely fail to disappoint, especially when the bloodsuckers are true to form monsters. While it's true that Martin's interpretation features some likeable vampires the presence of the evil bloodmaster evens the mood. Martin adeptly creates some very, very intense moments. One can even see Martin's possible influence in popular vampire dramas that have emerged since Fevre Dream. This is what Captain Abner Marsh may call a "ripping good yarn."
