Ruthless Game
by Christine Feehan
Rose, one of Dr. Whitney's original adopted girls, was placed into a breeding program so she could be a brood mare for his new race of super soldiers. After fighting off several prospective fathers, she is allowed to choose and she chooses a guard she has watched from afar. Rose chooses him based on her observations that he is fair and not cruel.
Kane agrees to Dr. Whitney's program because he knows it is inevitable for Rose and he has admired her from afar as well. He reasons he is her best choice as he will not force her to have sex. He also plans to help her and the others escape as soon as possible.
Although they only have one night together before they escape, Rose tells him she thinks she may be pregnant. But that was almost nine months ago. Kane is surprised the informant for a mission turns out to be a very pregnant Rose. The team accomplishes their objective, but Kane and Rose are left behind to fight their way out.
I liked this book because the characters seemed to have respect for each other and be considerate of the other's background. They recognize neither has known love growing up and have no example to follow in regards God being parents, but the are willing to stick together, fight for each other and their family, and make it work out.
