Croak by Gina Damico

Lex is a ball of anger management issues. She gets into fights with everyone. No one is safe from her flying fists and quick temper. Her parents have finally had enough and ship her off to spend the summer with her strange Uncle Mort in Upstate New York. Lex thinks she's going to spend the summer working at a dairy farm, but the farm is just a cover for what her uncle really is: a grim reaper. Instead of milking cows, Lex spends the summer reaping souls and trying to figure out why some of the bodies she's sent to reap have no clear sign of cause of death.

Croak is a very unique and quirky read. It's humor is sarcastic. It's characters are often times out of control. Jabs of both the verbal and physical kind are constantly flying. I really enjoyed the inner workings of the grim reapers and the afterlife, but I had a few issues with character development of some of the side characters. They had a tendency to blur together and only cropped up when the plot needed furthering, making their interactions feel a little less than organic. Fans of the good boy will love Driggs, but, don't worry, the romance storyline does not overpower the rest of what's going on.

While Croak does deal with the topic of death, the humor makes this almost a light read while still dealing with the heavy issues.
