All of It by Kim Holden
5.0

Kim Holden, you never disappoint. After getting off the high that is the Bright Side novels, in walks another beautiful story.

Our two main characters are Veronica and Dimitri, who meet on the first day of school. Ronnie is D's tour guide for 2 days to get him acquainted with the school but within their initial meeting, we learn two things: 1) Dimitri has an incredible memory and 2) he knows a lot of things about Veronica.

At the being of each chapter, we get a glimpse of what Veronica is dreaming from that night. In one dream she's a WWII nurse, helping a soldier. In another, she's in Paris walking down the Seine, hand-in-hand with a man at night. But in every dream, Dimitri is there with her. As the soldier. As the man in Paris.

Their connection is instantaneous, and soon after meeting, they begin dating. He is incredibly generous towards her and makes sure their dates are nothing short of perfection. He gives her, her favorite flowers, they eat her favorite food, he paints her, her favorite place in the world, which is Paris. Not only is their connection instant, but so is his relationship with her parents, William and Jo, whom she is incredibly close with.

When William and Jo die, Veronica feels like she's lost herself and can't seem to find a reason to stay alive. Dimitri is the one thing she has left and he refuses to let her give up. The love he has for her is so beautiful to read, it makes you hope that everyone has someone that incredible in their life.

The twist of the story comes in at the end of Veronica's life. She's in her 40s, and her & Dimitri are married and have a son, Phoenix, who is now 18. Veronica is telling the story in her head because she was diagnosed with cancer (damn you Holden for your cancer stories!!) and is about to pass. Before she lets go, Dimitri finally tells Veronica why he knew everything about her without her having to say. Every dream Veronica had of Dimitri was never a dream. They were her memories of them together from past lives, but she is never able to remember, only Dimitri. The reason why D, Jo and William have an instant connection, as well, because they were all friends in their original life together and continue to remember each life after. It's only Veronica who lives each life as her last. From their very first life together, they have always been meant for each other. In every life, Dimitri will go find Veronica so he can spend his life with her. They are the definition of soulmates.
