The High Notes by Danielle Steel

2.5

It was pretty repetitive in certain areas. Listening to the audiobook, I thought it had skipped back at times since sentences were repeated word-for-word multiple times. I didn't like how often Iris was described as "angelic" and the woman-but-looks-like-a-girl vibe. The struggle Iris went through definitely makes you feel for her. The relationship between
Iris and Clay
was conflicting for me. On one hand he's a good man, but on the other
he's like twice her age with a daughter 5 years younger than her. That's just not okay with me
.  Some people won't have problems with it, but it definitely affected my rating. The plot of this book.... what the fuck. Literally. The plot was doing fine for itself until the last 15%.
I could overlook the hitman, but the mass shooting and grammys... it took a decent plot and fucked it all up. I also did not like how Iris's entire acceptance speech went out to Clay as if she didn't get there because of her own hard work. It diminished her. I also think it's a little sad that for everything to be considered a happy ending, that Iris had to get married off and pregnant. I wish this book would have explored an ending outside of the traditional ending.
All around it wasn't a terrible book, but it's also not something I'd recommend.
