“Sound filled the room, a crystal melody that could lift any human heart and turn away any devil.
It was "Here I Go Again" by Whitesnake.”

“You know if you walked around the world, your hat would travel thirty-one feet farther than your shoes?”

“Every man is blessed with his gifts from the Lord. One of mine happens to be a penis large enough that, if it had a penis of its own, my penis’s penis would be larger than your penis.”

I spent a significant amount of time reading this book doubled over in hysterics. Two idiots discover a whole world hiding in plain sight, and shenanigans ensue! From start to finish John Dies at the End was a lot of fun. Pargin’s debut novel is a wild ride full of comedic excellence and creativity reminiscent of The Evil Dead (2) and The World’s End.

Last year I read Pargin’s most recent “I'm Starting to Worry About This Black Box of Doom” and greatly enjoyed it. I was expecting something similar for John Dies at the End. And while I can see the same humor and thought put into the story, this book feels more raw (rawer?). That’s to be expected comparing novels almost 20 years apart, however it’s one that I cannot help but make. I am very excited to see how Pargin’s writing skill and wit evolve throughout the rest of his writing.
