I wasn’t sure what to expect from this one. I had watched Normal People but have yet to read the book. The plot of this in its book jacket form didn’t call to me, and you’ll note some reviews on here discuss the stereotypes of affairs and how boring it was. I found it anything but boring. In fact, I devoured the book in 6 days, but mostly 3 larger chunks of reading (usually it takes me a bit longer to get through books no matter how fast I want to finish them). I loved this—how I related in one moment and the next not at all, how intrusive thoughts were weaved in with Frances’ narration, how messy and complex relationships were written and how some are a focal point in one moment and then in the background in another. As always, I’m adding one of the many favorite quotes I underlined:

“You’re twenty-one, said Melissa. You should be disastrously unhappy.
I’m working on it, I said”
