this book was a great adventure, taken at a slow pace but still keeping you on your toes. the prose was brilliant, and i found it unexpectedly funny and heartwarming at times too. the mystery about the plot was great for the first part of the book, but the further i got the less surprised i was by the developments. that said, the last part of the book was unexpected after the first three parts, and i really liked how it worked to follow the formula but still answer many of the unanswered questions i had. while the repetition was certainly the point of the book, and i did appreciate it at many points, it did also have the unfortunate side effect of making parts of the book boring or difficult to read. probably my favourite part of the book was the character building and description - ozu and his relationship with the protagonist was brilliantly depicted, and i had to laugh every time the protagonist says something mean about him. akashi was also a very fun character, and i liked how she tied into each story slightly differently. ultimately this was well worth the read, but may not be worth rereading for me personally.
