This book should have been either a series or an epic like East of Eden.
While the premise, history, and story are so interesting, the haste to include all of this detail in one book that's only 400 pages long leaves a rushed, sometimes confusing, but addictive book.

This book had a lot of jumps. I loved the pacing of Act 1 and would have loved to keep that. That's why this book should have been a series. As much as I loved the story and mystery, it felt so out of left field for Kitty to be a part of a secret network. And the setup for Blair House felt so out of left field. The entire relationship with Lucy felt out of left field. If we had more buildup, mystery, something,  it could have been a jaw-dropping moment. My jaw should have dropped when I found out Lucy was also passing. But 6 other characters are also passing? After spending the entire time with Emma, reminding us how dangerous it is. What the hell? And also, because of the shortness, very serious moments were just 2 pages, or even paragraphs. When Nathan found out about Sarah and about Kitty, that should have been a big deal! But it couldn't be because of the constraints. And at the end, now Ellise is going to go against all the advice of her loved ones and reveal everything on the Oscar stage? And announce some reparations fund with Kitty's money? Do you know how hard it is to even acknowledge reparations, let alone anything else? It was too rushed. And a shame because the premise is sooo interesting. So I walked away disappointed.
