The strongest part of the book was the beginning third, where we learn what Amy does for a living, her relationship with her ex, and the viral episode that had her fleeing her life from New York City to London for some anonymity. She takes an entry-level position making TV promos.

Amy is feeling positive about her position in the company and a potential promotion, and she meets a new neighbor, Jakes, that she thinks is pretty hot. Things are going well in life, that is, until her ex resurfaces at her current job, which brings up a lot of unresolved emotions surrounding their life together and subsequent break-up. He is an absolute snake, who charms his way into situations and gets her to trust him again. Big mistake. Huge.

Amy and Jake are similar enough in character that it's easy to see how they clicked, and how their relationship developed. They both write in the TV/film industry, they both have issues with their immediate families, and they both have humiliating and regrettable incidents in their past. It makes them perfect for each other. I thought Jake was the better of the two characters, as at times Amy's actions kept me from cheering her on. In fact, some of her actions in the last third of the book left me with a wth? reaction. But that's one of the reasons the book works; Amy is not perfect and makes mistakes. She's human.

Bottom line, if you love books by the likes of Emily Henry, and Emily Henry loves Lizzy Dent's books, it's worth it to give this rom com a shot. Recommend!
