Holy smokes another book finished in a day. I picked this book up after enjoying Lu's 'Legend' novel and she certainly didn't let me down. Here's a quick run down of my fave three aspects of Warcross:

1. The characters were vibrant, colourful, and easy to picture in my mind. Sometimes I find authors try too hard to make their characters seem whimsical and beat around the bush of actually describing what they look like. First few pages in Warcross and I already knew that the main character has rainbow hair and get's around on an electric skate board. Amazing, I could now keep reading with a perfect picture of what Emika looks like.

2. The world building and game explanation was concise and effective. I had no confusion whatsoever surrounding how to play the game and what it took to win. Again, amazing images as the action was described for what it was.

3. The romance in this book was at a good level. It had a point - there wasn't romance for romance's sake. I guess it was a bit of a quick burn romance but the word love wasn't thrown around so I'm okay with it. Also, the romance didn't take over the plot of the novel and it stayed true to the game and Emika's job.

Now for some other notes that aren't exactly negative - just things I want to point out:

1. In terms of the pace I thought it was great once you reached around page 50. I know I said the characters and world building was concise, and it was. It was more that I was waiting for something to happen. But in saying that, I didn't have to wait long.

2. I'm sorry but I really don't understand the cover. I like the cover, but I don't see why a rainbow cube was used (rainbow because of Emika's hair maybe?). If it was to stay minimalistic maybe a pair of those link glasses would have been cool. Or could have gone the other way and gone full out with scene of one of the worlds from Warcross.

3. The 'plot twist' at the end was kind of predictable to be honest, but I still enjoyed it.

Recommends to: gamers who might be just getting into reading, gamers in general, sci-fi readers, fantasy readers, people who like mysteries and want something a bit different.

Chance of reading the sequel: 98.75% (depends on how long I have to wait at the library)
