Kingdom Come by Alex Ross, Mark Waid

I'm starting to think that I don't like overly serious comic books. Or at least I haven't found one that tickles my fancy.

Maybe I would have liked this story more if I was a bigger DC fan, or if I had read it when it first came out. As it is I found this story to be stuffy and almost pretentious. I predicted most of the so-called twists before they happened, and the few that I didn't were mostly due to a lack of DC lore knowledge, like not knowing Captain Marvel/Shazam is apparently strong enough to go toe to toe with Superman. The whole Norman and Spectre thing felt cheesy, contrived, and unnecessary. And maybe they didn't have enough pages or time, but they did too much telling and not enough showing to really build its core dilemma to something other than just an intellectual/philosophical exercise.
