Suicide Season by Yolanda Olson

5.0

Sick, twisted and completely beautiful

"Statistically, Sin City ranked thirty-four and a half suicides per one hundred thousand people annually, and I was ashamed to say that I was almost the half."

From the very beginning of the story, Olsen captivates the reader with the beauty in the darkness, letting Eliseo's pain seep into your bones while witnessing Jakobe's aura overpowering him. And that's just the prologue.

This is a story in three parts: Eliseo (the Lesser), Jakobe (the Master) and Lotte (the Cypher). Unlike the dual point of view which readers are so often given, each of Suicide Season's characters takes a single section of the story. Eliseo tells us of the relationship between him and Jakobe, of his fears and sorrows, set to the backdrop of the events that led him to meet Lotte. Jakobe shows us the other side of the relationship, revealing all the elements that Eliseo hasn't yet seen. Lotte is the catalyst for the action in the story and events that bring Eliseo and Jakobe closer together. Eliseo is humanity, Lotte compassion, and Jakobe dark power, all three drawing together to create a seductively enchanting tale.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to read it again because I'm not quite ready to leave the season behind.
