A Resistance of Witches
by Morgan Ryan
In general, I am over WWII books because they all seem to be variations on a theme. But it turns out that a witchy alternative WWII history is right up my alley. Ryan dropped in the twists just as soon as the reader had enough breadcrumbs to figure them out, which I prefer to holding them all til the end. The images of sisterhood and mothering and family were beautiful. The storytelling was captivating and I didn’t want to put this down even though I should have been reading my next book club book. The “romance” was the weakest part of the book, but it was minimal enough not to impact my overall feelings. The Resistance of Witches was perfect for fall/spooky season reading, but I’d read this anytime of year.
