The Gods Themselves by Isaac Asimov

5.0

This is a great book. It feels as though it is an allegory about climate change denialism, but it was written before that problem arose. (Don't be put off reading it — you might think this is a dull topic but the novel is truly gripping.)

The title comes from the saying coined by Schiller: Against stupidity the gods themselves contend in vain. It's one of my favourite proverbs and fits the book perfectly.

This is a short read and yet it achieves the sort of three-dimensional world-building that we normally associate with very long speculative fiction.

Highly recommend to all sci-fi fans and to anyone who wants to read a great sci-fi novel.
